Program Note

DANCA and BRASILIANO are single pieces arranged for Percussion Ensemble (8-9 players) that are originally from my “Brazilian Suite for Vibraphone, Strings and Percussion”.

DANÇA features the Berimbau dialoguing with the vibraphone and giving the overall afro feeling of the work. The uplifting rhythm and catching melodies are intercalated with a cadenza using extracts of the themes, and explores the rich timbers of the vibraphone and the berimbau.
It is important that the berimbau is tuned in “A” to a proper dialogue with the main themes.

BRASILIANO:  The movement starts with variations of the Brazilian National anthem (in minor key) combined with the Bachianas Brasileiras from Villa Lobos.
The Allegro part  presents two themes using the most important Brazilian rhythms: Samba Reggae, Marcha Rancho, and Baiao.
At the second part are citations of some of the most popular Brazilian classic songs from: Carlos Gomes, Heitor Villa Lobos, Luiz Gonzaga and Sivuca.
